To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the opening of our beautiful new library building in March, we will host a musical performance each week during the month. Many performers will be part of the Boxborough community. The Blanchard chorus, woodwind, and brass ensembles will perform and the Madrigal Singers and Senior Tambourine Players will return to the library for encore performances. “Two Old Friends” Mac McHale and Emery Hutchins will perform a concert of Irish music in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The Blanchard School K-6th grade student’s art will be on display in the meeting during the entire month. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration, which is sponsored by the generosity of the Friends of the Boxborough Library.. For the schedule of events check our event calendar. |

"Two Old Friends" Irish Music Concert @ the Library The Sargent Memorial Library will host an evening of Irish music on Thursday, March 11 at 6:30 pm. Mac McHale and Emery Hutchins, “Two Old Friends” playing songs from Ireland, the mountains and the sea will delight audiences young and old with a combination of Irish music and American country music. With banjo, guitar, mandolin, concertina, bodran, octave mandolin, and heart-warming vocal harmonies, Two Old Friends tell a story in music of how immigrants came to this country from Ireland, Scotland, and Great Britain, bringing their melodies and instruments; and they show how the old time country ballads of the Appalachians are rooted in these tunes. A Two Old Friends performance will give you plaintive ballads and foot-stomping shout tunes; soaring mandolin solos, gospel sing-alongs, traditional Irish tunes, and story-telling. There is truly something for everyone. This 5th anniversary library celebration performance is supported in part by a grant from the Acton-Boxborough Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency and the Friends of the Boxborough Library. |
